Birmingham’s exotic hidden world

There’s a hidden world beneath Birmingham’s bustling China Town – and it’s changing.

Walk down the steps from the award-winning Wing Wah restaurant or its adjacent sister restaurant Ming Moon and you’ll discover an amazing collection of private rooms ready to host private parties or just an informal get-together for friends or business colleagues.

Wing Wah has 10 private rooms, each totally different, and they’re being transformed with new themes. All are fully equipped with the latest karaoke equipment so revellers can belt-out their favourite hit songs. Guests can choose self-service or waiter-service for food and drink.

Co-owner Dorian Chan explains:

We decided it was time to give the rooms a new look. They get a lot of use and we thought rather than just redecorating them, we’d introduce entirely new themes. We’ve let our imaginations run riot to create spaces that guests can really enjoy.

So far three rooms have been completed. There’s the eccentric Steampunk room, the sedate and stylish English Garden and the wacky and glitzy Crazy Rich Asians room.

Work continues but the rooms are still available for hire. There’s no hiring fee but there is a minimum spend. The rooms vary in size, holding between six and 40 guests.
