Connolly’s Wine Merchant Opens New Bar 10th May at Arch 13

Arch 13, the new wine bar at Connolly’s Wine Merchants has released images of its interior, ahead of its official opening on Thursday 10th May.

Designed by award-winning interior designers, Newman Gauge, Arch 13 is inspired by the traditional wine cellar with a contemporary twist. Fret cut metal work, inspired by traditional stencils found on cellar barrels, is offset against a backdrop of distressed and aged timbers with accents of copper, honed stone and zinc.

Connolly’s Wine Merchants has been at its address on Livery Street underneath the railway arches in Birmingham since 1991. Designed to showcase and celebrate the space’s lofty arches, Arch 13 will be light and airy by day and cosy, intimate and lit by candle-light in the evening.

Connolly’s new wine shop, which can be found at the rear of Arch13, will continue to carry one of the broadest ranges of wines and spirits in the country. With over 500 wines, 120 gins and countless whiskies, brandies, liqueurs and associated fine beverages. The new retail space now also offers wine on tap, by the bottle to takeaway. Guests can also enjoy any bottle purchased in the wine shop in Arch 13 for a £7.50 corkage fee.

Arch 13 will offer an ever-evolving wine list which launches with a 23-strong selection (from £4, by the glass) a cocktail menu that takes in six classic mixes, and six specials, and a menu devoted to Madeira wines showcasing vintage bottles dating from 1968.

The food menu takes in a selection of British meat, including hand-carved mutton, venison salami and air-dried duck, and cheese boards sourced from Harvey and Brockless. A selection of hot and comforting mains will be available at lunch time and bespoke cheese and meat boards can be created as required.

A family owned and run business, Connolly’s has a heritage that extends back into the 19th century. Abigail Connolly, Arch 13 Director and the only female sommelier in the city, said, “Arch13 is all about unique wines, great cheese and meat, and perfect pairings between the two. We can’t wait to open and showcase some really interesting pairings to our customers.”

Arch13 opens to the public on Thursday 10th May.
