BIRMINGHAM MUSEUM & ART GALLERY OPENS ITS DOORS IN THE TWILIGHT HOURS FOR AN EVENING OF ART, MUSIC AND BUBBLES THIS DECEMBER
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has partnered with the Arts Council Collection and local event organisers, The Food & Drink Events Company for an exploration into art in the twilight hours.
Art Lates: Bubbles and Blues takes place on Saturday December 3rd. The gallery will be opening its doors after-hours to welcome guests to an immersive evening of art, sparkling wine and entertainment to celebrate the Ryan Gander’s unique ‘Night in the museum’ exhibition.
Curated by leading British artist, Ryan Gander, the major new exhibition, Night in the Museum, gives visitors a unique view of the Arts Council Collection in its 70th anniversary year. The Arts Council Collection includes nearly 8,000 works of British art in a range of media.
The Arts Council Collection is the UK’s most widely seen collection of modern and contemporary art and the exhibition marks the start of a three-year National Partnership Programme which will see Birmingham Museums Trust bring the collection to a wider audience in the city. Birmingham Museums is one of only four partner venues chosen by Arts Council Collection.
Ryan Gander said: “I love Birmingham, it’s a great art city, centred on the periphery, full of energy and drive. We have a long relationship, having taught at Bournville and shown at Ikon, so it’s a great privilege for me to have the opportunity to bring this Arts Council Collection Show, Night in the Museum, to Gas Hall.”
Guest on the evening will be some of the first to view Ryan Gander’s new commission, As old as time itself, slept alone (2016), will also be on display. The piece is the latest in an ongoing series in which Gander re-imagines Edgar Degas’ famous work The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer (1880-81) in different scenarios as if she is wandering around the museum.
As well as offering art lovers a chance to enjoy the exhibition after-hours, ‘Art Lates :: Bubbles & Blues’ gives guests the opportunity to meet the Birmingham Museum’s curator of modern art, Lisa Beauchamp and enjoy live music, all topped off with a glass of sparkling wine from Three Choirs Vineyard (based in Gloucestershire).

Tickets include entry to the event, live music, a chance to meet Birmingham Museum’s curator of modern art and a glass of award-winning English sparkling wine. Tickets are priced at £10 and must be pre-booked at this link.
