Glitch gif-art – Birmingham Open Media is definitely presenting the most modern art forms you could imagine. Roberts exploits coding errors to produce mesmerising gif art, including a piece called Glass that was commissioned by the Tate. This is his first solo exhibition.

Art Bus

Technically October, but this is too good to miss. The Art Bus picks up at various stops around the city and takes in six of the best art galleries in Birmingham: the mac, the Barber institute, Ikon, RBSA, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and the Parkside gallery. Guided tours are available at some of the venues check out their websites for further details.

Artists in residence: Katharina Ludwig & Cristobal Gracia

Grand Union welcomes two artists in residence for November: Katharina Ludwig from Germany and Cristobel Gracia from Mexico. The residency will include an evening of tapas and cocktails on Friday 6 November (part of Digbeth First Friday) and a conversation with Cristobel Gracia about his work and the art scene in Mexico on Tuesday 10 November.

Digbeth First Friday returns on Friday 6 November!  Digbeth comes alive on the first Friday of each month with exhibitions, late-night openings, special events, culture in unexpected spaces, live music, street food and more.  Digbeth First Friday runs across Digbeth from 6pm ‘til late. Includes a Free State of Digbeth Bonfire with food courtesy of The Real Junk Food Project.

Alex Drozd: Smethwick Galton Bridge / Portrait of a Station

Saturday 28 November – Sunday 24 January 2016

Drozd spent 2013 documenting the changing seasons through the upper platform windows at Smethwick Galton Bridge railway station. The resulting photographs show the changing natural landscape through the scratched and weathered panes and bordered by the architecture of the station.
