Growing Old Gracefully – Men’s Hair Loss

There’s a lot of pressure these days to look good, the trouble with this is, as we age, looking good becomes increasingly more difficult. The effects of ageing can bring on depression and damage self esteem.

Some people will not care, and generally accept the ageing process. This can include a change in hair colour to grey or white, and in many cases hair thinning or complete hair loss leaving men bald.

Many women find grey heir attractive, the ‘silver fox’ look is widely acknowledged as a turn on for some younger women. Not only that, many women like or even prefer a short, shaved or bald head on a man as it can indicate masculinity.

Unfortunately some men do not suit the shaved or bald look due to the shape of their head. For them, or men who feel their self esteem has been damaged by hair loss, treatments such as Regaine and Dutasteride are a possible answer. These treatments do not work for all, but for those that do show recovery or at least a stabilising of hair loss, treatment is generally long term.

The other popular treatment is a hair transplant. This is a lengthy process of removing hair follicles from somewhere on your head where hair is thicker, and re planting them into the bald or thinning sections. This can be an expensive approach and take several procedure but remains the only way to completely restore hair loss. It can however end up looking wiry and a different colour so further hair treatment may be needed to make it match in with existing hair.

One alternative method is inking in hair follicles. This really only gives an appearance of someone who has hair but who decides to shave it close.

Around half of men suffer from male pattern baldness. While the hereditary condition can affect men in their late teens or early twenties, it usually happens in later life; forty percent of men experience the first signs of male pattern hair loss by their late thirties.

It is always best to speak with your GP or a health professional first, before attempting to self treat via an Online Pharmacy or before paying out for an expensive procedure in a hair clinic.

And for those men who have the confidence to accept the ravages of time, a good cap can help when out in public, or a don’t care attitude. Afterall, some of the biggest heart throbs in the world are bald or have shaved heads.
