2017 is shaping up to be an exciting year of projects, commissions, residencies and research. To whet your appetite, here are a few highlights about what’s coming up over the next few months.
EXPANDED INTIMACY, Arts & Science Festival, University of Birmingham – March 2017
‘Expanded Intimacy’ is a collaborative research residency with artist Nuala Clooney at University of Birmingham to produce prototype glassware specifically designed for food and drink performance. Working with award winning glass blower Steve Williams, at the University of Birmingham’s School of Chemistry, we will create bespoke pieces of glass objects will transgress conventional modes of eating; using food, performance, texture, weight to explore eating as a sensual act.
This short residency will lead to a public event in March as part of University’s Arts & Science Festival in collaboration with Rob Wood (Smultronstalle, The Wilderness, In Rob We Trust Ltd). EXPLORING FANNY with Fierce Festival
2017 ongoing
Starting with the formidable character of Fanny Cradock, Olivia Winteringham and myself are starting to unpick how issues of gender, domesticity and repulsion can be brought together in a food-driven performance. We will look at how foodstuff, combined with performance, can embody the grotesque with a live audience to provoke strong, physical and emotional reactions.
The initial research for Exploring Fanny is being supported through Fierce FWD‘s Development Programme and will lead to a showcase event in April.

I am thrilled to be working with a group of students across two courses (Fine Art and Art & Design) to introduce and explore the use of food and dining as an artistic motivation.
Research with the students will culminate in an artists’ dinner, led and delivered by the students, to be hosted at the University’s IPS Gallery, Birmingham in May 2017.
