New project alert for this experienced West Midlands duo with a deep history from playing Hammond organ for Robert Plant, releasing 12”s on MAW’s Kenlou Records and playing weekly six hour vinyl DJ sets, with 20+ years experience WLC have come full circle for this diverse EP. “Give You More” is a MPC house groover with KDJ-esque jazz-funk loops and vocal sample chops while “Miami Rice & Peas” centres around Latin piano motifs.“
Everybody’s A Star” replays the classic Minnie Riperton “Inside My Love” chord progression but with added vocals and disco flavours and “Which Way Is Detroit?” fuses broken beat, techno, live keys and electric bass with a pulsating breakbeat. Finally, the bouncy “Five Soul Chords” utilises some J Dilla swing combined with warm analogue synth programming. Highly recommended.
