Popular mother and daughter-run café bar, Ju Ju’s Café, has launched a new menu inspired by the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Located at Canal Square, owners Julia Pallister and Bea Douzjian have launched their ‘Summer in the Square’ menu to coincide with Birmimgham 2022 – the biggest sporting event Brum has ever hosted.
Renowned for hearty brunches and comfort food, Ju Ju’s Cafe is evolving its food offering for summer, providing diners with a totally new selection of small plates and nibbles, as well as the usual customer favourites.
Diners will be able to enjoy a variety of light bites (ranging from £3-£9) including the salt beef cold platter, strawberry and mozzarella bruschetta, trio of pate, and creamy croquettes. Everything is made in-house and fresh to order, with produce sourced locally.
Perfect for relaxed sunny afternoons on the canal-side terrace, there’s 15 new dishes inspired by Commonwealth countries to enjoy, alongside a limited-edition cocktail: The Ginger Gymnast.
We wanted to create a light, seasonal menu that celebrates this once in a lifetime sporting event coming to our beautiful city. We’re particularly excited as events such as the gymnastics are being hosted just 5 minutes walk from us at Utilita Arena – so much so we’ve invented a cocktail for it, explains Julia.
The Ginger Gymnast is a refreshing summer tipple and at just £7 is an affordable cocktail to enjoy outside as the boats float past. A zingy upgrade on a traditional Pimms, it’s sunshine in a glass and bound to put a spring in your step.
An entirely independently owned and run café, the mother and daughter duo behind it say they’re not only passionate about celebrating Birmingham but also the other small businesses and people that make it the vibrant, multicultural city it is.
We’re all about family and community spirit here at Ju Ju’s Café so we’ve also collaborated with local producers to create totally unique dishes for our customers during the games, like our house-baked focaccia served with Tan & Rosie’s Caribbean-inspired aubergine pesto. All vegan and simply delicious, says Bea.
Ju Ju’s Café opened in 2008 and quickly made a name for itself as a welcoming, inclusive venue for relaxed dining and fun events such as murder mystery dinner parties and art classes. This month they’re also taking part in the Canal Square Market.
We’re excited to have Canal Square Market – funded by the Commonwealth Games Community Fund – literally on our doorstep, with the next market taking place on 29th July to coincide with the games officially kicking off.
It’s the perfect excuse to try our new summer menu or enjoy our CWG inspired cocktail while you buy some locally made artisan goodies,” concludes Bea.
