Peaky Blinders Returning for a Grand Finale After Filming in Birmingham Wraps

Running from September 2013 to April 2022 across six welcomingly tight six-episode seasons, Peaky Blinders brought back the gangster theme and welcomed a big-budget production to Birmingham. In the UK alone, its run on BBC Two ranged from 2.18 to 3.35 million viewers on average, and on BBC One, the last two seasons eclipsed 5.4 million. In 2024, production for the grand finale wrap-up film helped to buoy the British film industry.

In a report of shoots and earnings from the BFI, as relayed by THR, 191 feature films were shooting in the UK across 2024, with the total spend on these films and TV shows hitting £5.6 billion. One of the main productions name-checked by the report was The Immortal Man: A Peaky Blinders Film, which had shoots across the country. When it releases, Peaky Blinders will, once again, get us all wanting to explore the old gangster days of Birmingham.

Incredible Popularity for the Birmingham-Set Show

It’s difficult to understate just how much of a hit Peaky Blinders has been. The fact that it wasn’t even in a prime time slot on BBC One for years speaks to how strong the show was. When it hit Netflix in 2014, it became global success, giving people around the world a different British city setting to London. Peaky Blinders hairstyles became all the rage, as did pin-stripe suits and baker boy caps.

The show spawned a surge of interest in both the theme and the city of Birmingham. British gangsters became of great interest and further built on by Legend in 2015. From there, people went looking everywhere for similar pieces of entertainment. Even at the top bingo sites UK players can find, Getaway Gangsters enjoyed a surge of popularity as the show reached its climax. With the film on the way, bingo players will surely replay the slot.

Of course, there’s also the chance for people to just explore the city of London. Peaky Blinders and the ‘Peaky Effect’ has been credited by the BBC for putting the second city on the map in the film industry. This is especially true as a destination for fans. Now, you can find street murals dotted around, a stage adaptation, pubs in the theme of those seen in the show, and walking tours. There’s even been an immersive festival on Adderley Street.

What We Know About The Immortal Man

In late 2024, Peaky Blinders returned to the streets of Birmingham. The Netflix-made movie brought in the boats for the scenes on Gas Street by the canal in October and had Cillian Murphy riding a horse down Cornwall Street in November. It caused quite the commotion around Cornwall Street, with everyone in rooms overlooking the filming trying to get a peak of the star of the show.

On 19 December 2024, filming across the UK officially wrapped. The occasion was celebrated by Netflix by posting a picture of Cillian Murphy and a newcomer to the film, Barry Keoghan. Talking soon after this, its creator, Steven Knight, was asked if there’s a release date. The British screenwriter said that, at the time, it was a bit soon for a firm date, but that “it will be about a year.”

There seems to be a good chance that the Peaky Blinders film will be out before the end of 2025 on Netflix, spurring yet another surge of interest in the city and the setting.
