Hotly tipped singer-songwriter Jessica Sweetman and beloved British tenor Alfie Boe today release their collaboration, ‘Broken Perfect Love’. The emotionally charged duet, out now, was recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London.
‘Broken Perfect Love’ is a raw, personal and uplifting celebration of the pair’s shared journey with their mental health, of healing and of the unwavering desire to find love so deep it can set us free – a heartfelt anthem for those navigating heartbreak and the power of connection. Jessica and Alfie’s voices soar together in breathtaking harmonies across rising melodies and deeply human lyrics that speak to the beauty of being broken and still worthy of love.
The pair’s creative journey began a year ago in the renowned Green Room at The Devonshire in London, where an impromptu live performance sparked an instant connection that’s only grown stronger since. That night turned into a friendship and ongoing collaboration rooted in honesty, humour, and a mutual love of music. ‘Broken Perfect Love’ is the result – a hazy, heart-on-the-sleeve ballad that delves deep into love’s ability to make us open up, feel vulnerable and connect with each other in a deeply human manner.
“We both knew that night something special had clicked,” says Jessica. “We didn’t plan it — we just sang, and the room went silent. From there, we knew we had to make something real together. This track is about being vulnerable and unafraid. It’s about finding beauty in that openness – in the cracks, the messiness, the truth.”
Alfie adds: “We’ve both been very open about our struggles with mental health. This song captures how love can be fragile and make us feel vulnerable. It’s about two “broken” imperfect people healed by a love that is deep, beautiful and healing.”
An intimate reflection of the pair’s individual healing journeys – and the ways they’ve helped each other out along the way – ‘Broken Perfect Love’ paints a vivid picture of two people finding solace in togetherness and the hope found in love – whatever form it might take.
Backed by rich instrumentation and recorded in one of the most historic studios in the world, the track captures the emotional punch of the pair’s confessional songwriting, fusing Alfie’s distinctive powerhouse tenor with Jessica’s sleek and satiny vocals. Delicate piano lines and spiralling instrumentals culminate in a majestic and moving crescendo, inviting every listener, especially those who feel broken, to find hope in connection and love.
‘Broken Perfect Love’ arrives alongside an emotive video, filmed during a recording session at Angel Studios. It brings to life Jessica and Alfie’s natural affinity and the heartwarming friendship that lies at the track’s core. Stream the track here.
The landmark collaboration ushers in a vital new era for Jessica, as she emerges as an artist empowered to express herself on her own terms. However, ‘Broken Perfect Love’ is far from the beginning of Jessica’s journey. Born in Birmingham and raised largely on London’s smoky jazz bar scene, Jessica’s journey with music first began when she was 15 years old. Performances on the local gig circuit led to Jessica leaving college, making the big move to London aged just 17, where she continued to hone her craft performing in the glamorous cigar rooms of Mayfair and Soho.
Burning out after four intense years on the London scene, Jessica’s drive amidst the tumult and unpredictability of the music industry saw her book a one-way ticket to New York to tirelessly pursue her first record deal.
Since then, Jessica has grappled with every curveball the ever-unpredictable music industry has thrown at her – from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, Jessica has previously worked with the likes of Hozier and Keane, opened for Van Morrison across 12 dates, and wrote her debut album whilst squatting inside BMG’s Nashville offices.
Feeling free and embracing the opportunity to forge her own identity as an artist who is unflinchingly real and effortlessly true to herself, ‘Broken Perfect Love’ opens the door on an exhilarating new chapter for Jessica Sweetman.
