21 September 2026: As national maths confidence dips[1], maths only education specialist Mathnasium in Kings Heath has confirmed that 89% of its students passed their GCSE Maths, achieving Grade 4+ compared with 72% nationally, with 42% achieving one or two grades higher than predicted.
Mathnasium which has centres across the UK, including in Kings Heath, develops bespoke learning plans following assessment, and this tailored approach has helped hundreds of pupils bridge the grade gap. Across the UK, 85% of its students met or improved on their predicted GCSE grades this year, up 3% on 2025. 50% improved by a grade or more compared to their prediction.

In Kings Heath, 23 students supported by our tuition took their GCSEs and 89% passed, with 42% achieving one or two grades higher than predicted. One student was predicted a grade 6 and achieved an 8 and another who is autistic was predicted a grade 6 and achieved a grade 7. One pupil moved from a predicted a grade 2 up to a grade 5.
“We also have another student who is working two years ahead. He’s only eleven years old and is about to start Year 9 work.
“Our 11+ results were also good last year, with 60% being awarded a place at grammar school. We have 21 students who have worked with us taking their 11+ this year and we are expecting the same good results. However, for us, it’s more important how far students have come and for some, progress has been immense over the past year. For that, we are incredibly proud.”
Mathnasium Kings Heath has strong connections with local schools. “Our instructors visit Queensbridge to support around 20 students with maths tuition at school. It’s a win-win for both students and teachers. Our bespoke learning plans are aligned with the national curriculum and this additional support means children can improve understanding, confidence and achieve better grades,” explains Mehdi Bahramchoobin. “The students all did so well, we organised a little celebration earlier this year which was great fun!”
Mehdi Bahramchoobin opened Mathnasium Kings Heath in January 2025, and was an accountant for 12 years. He also has an MBA in Financial Analysis. He says: “It was my passion for education and seeing children succeed that led me to set up the maths learning centre in our community. My wife is a Maths teacher in a local school and she joins us to help children with exam technique ahead of exams too.
“Now it’s September, for some students this time of year can mean going back to school with a bump. However, it’s important to remember that the new term also represents a great time to address any summer learning loss and take a fresh approach to maths.

As understanding grows so too does confidence, problem solving and critical thinking ability. Mathnasium in Numbers
- 94% of parents across Mathnasium’s centres report an improvement in their child’s maths skills and understanding.
- During July and August this year alone, 50,395 student sessions were delivered across the Mathnasium UK network and 25,031 topics were mastered by Mathnasium students, building important skills for the new school year.

- When it came to supporting those re-sitting GCSEs, Mathnasium UK students achieved a 69% pass rate compared to 15% nationally, with 22% improving by two or more grades compared to their prediction.
