A shining celebration of talent at the Mayor’s charity concert

On the evening of Friday 10 April 2026, at Solihull’s Core Theatre, performers for the Mayor’s variety show ‘Solihull Shines’ took to the stage, ready to bedazzle an enthralled audience.

The event was held in celebration of the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Annette Mackenzie’s, year in office and to raise money for her three chosen charities: the Cameron Grant Memorial Trust, Newlands Bishop Farm, and OVOS (Our Voice, Our Services). Proceeds from ticket sales, a raffle and a GoFundMe for those who couldn’t attend on the night were combined and will be donated to the local causes.

To start off the evening’s stellar line-up, choir group Sing Solihull performed in the foyer to welcome guests as they arrived, while VIP ticket holders were already enjoying pre-show entertainment in the Courtyard Gallery from vocalists Stacey and Tracey and Lily Hughes, and poet Emily Holtom.

The first act was bursting with Solihull’s finest young talent, with the line-up ranging from ariel silk and hoop performers and dance to youth theatre, comedy and poetry. All acts were introduced by the event’s charming compere Nicola Prestage.

During the interval, attendees had the chance to enter a raffle and win prizes such as a family trip to the pantomime, food and drink hampers and gift cards.

Act two didn’t disappoint either. Singer Amara Latchford opened the second half, followed by two theatre performances, a solo dancer, a reading from the Young Poet Laureate Birmingham, and finally Pop Voices Youth Choir who closed the show with some classic covers!

The Mayor of Solihull expressed her gratitude to everyone who took part in the event:

‘It was truly a privilege to witness the magic of Solihull Shines. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our wonderful performers and compère, whose passion and creativity lit up the stage. My sincere appreciation also goes to the exceptional team at The Core Theatre, whose dedication and hard work made the evening run so splendidly.

To everyone who attended, supported and donated so generously to my three chosen charities, I would like to thank you for your kindness and community spirit. I would also like to offer special thanks to our sponsors for their valued support.

I feel truly humbled by the generosity, talent and unity shown by our community. It was a perfect and memorable way to bring my year in office to a close.’

Solihull Shines was sponsored by Pertemps, Corella and Production LX.
