Curl Girl Productions bring their latest show, Echoes of Panjab to the Midland’s Arts Centre this May.

Funded by National Lottery Project Grants, Echoes of Panjab is inspired by testimonies of people that took part in the farmers protests at Singhu Border, Delhi and victims of Operation Blue Star 1984, Panjab. A moving story following a farming girl Jind and her mother Bebe, Echoes of Panjab takes a heartfelt look at the experience of the farming community in Panjab and their fight for justice.

13th January 2021, Lohri Panjab’s annual festival is being celebrated. This year however, the ritual of throwing jaggery and monkey nuts into an open fire is instead replaced by burning the New Farm Law charter PM Modi has recently approved. The farmers are angry. Follow the story of Jind, a farming girl who leaves her village in Mohali, Panjab to find her truth and fight for justice on the frontline.”

Artistic Director Kiren Jogi says: “Once again Curl Girl is delighted to be producing a theatre show in English & Panjabi for our incredible audiences. Echoes of Panjab is perhaps the first stage play that sparks much needed conversation about the Farmers Protests in Delhi and Panjab. Our shows sell out because audiences feel represented and Echoes of Panjab does exactly that. ’

Curl Girl Productions are a West Midlands based actress-led theatre company celebrating South Asian Culture & identity through dynamic storytelling.

Echoes of Panjab will be the third show they have brought to the Midlands Arts Centre, after their incredibly successful performances of A Marriage Proposal which saw Chekov’s well known play set across both rural England and the vibrant backdrop of Jalandhar, Panjab and The Valley of Queens, verbatim piece based on the lives of South Asian women aged between 50 and 75 in Sandwell.
