This May, Birmingham Rep will be bringing an exciting new project from Birmingham-based theatre company, White Bear Productions. All My Pretty Ones follows on from the success of Les Vaches Dans Le Champ as the second instalment of a historic trilogy written by Patrick Hayes and will debut at The Rep on Wednesday 14 May, 8pm and then continue its limited run until Saturday 17 May.
All My Pretty Ones tells the true story of the tragedy that took place in the French village of Oradour-sur-Glane during the Second World War, in 1944. Told through the eyes of three young medical students, one German girl, Miriam, one French girl, Marie Christine and one British lad, Steve travelling together to the south of France.
All My Pretty Ones is not just a play about Nazi barbarism, but one that looks at the psychology of The Evil Men Do,and offers a chilling warning to our society today.
Taking on the lead roles in this profound new production will be Alice Orlik making her professional debut as Miriam, Katie Cannon (Alice in Wonderland, New Vic Theatre) as Marie Christine and Talyaan Pambou (The Brummie Iliad, Lightpost Theatre) as Steve.
Making up the rest of the cast will be Andrew Cullum as Maurice, Bryony Tebbutt as Aurélie, Clement James as Pierre, Annaliese Morgan as Claudine, Leah Fennel as Monique, Amara Latchford as Lucien, Giles Whorton as Hans and Greg Hobbs as SS Officer.
With no accommodation available, the trio are rescued by Maurice who owns a local guesthouse, ‘Les Quatre Vents’. Soon after their arrival, strange happenings occur. The tragedy begins to unfold. The audience is transported back to 1944 and the inhabitants of a former farmhouse are brought back to life. The three students embark on a journey to discover the tragic past of Oradour-sur-Glane, the French village whose inhabitants were murdered by the Nazis on 10 June 1944.
White Bear Productions co-founder Patrick Hayes is both the writer and co-producer of the production and will be joined on the creative team by Marcus Fernado (Director), Fateha Begum (Producer), White Bear Productions (Executive Producer), Jobe Sullivan (Music Composer), Nathan Bowyer (Stage Manager), Paul Withers (Lights and Sound), Abeda Begum (Costumes) and Angie Chapman (Set Design).
