A night of raw emotion, atmospheric noise and fearless alternative rock arrives at Actress & Bishop on Friday, 10th April, as Black Foxxes headline with special guests Sweet Giant and Dystopia Gently for a bill that promises intensity, vulnerability and sonic exploration.

Black Foxxes have carved out a distinctive place in the UK alt rock landscape, building a sound rooted in instinct, honesty and catharsis. Drawing from influences like Neil Young, Sonic Youth and PJ Harvey, the band weave rugged textures with moments of delicate clarity, a style shaped profoundly by frontman Mark Holley’s years spent living in remote, untamed environments across the world.

Holley’s last decade has taken him from isolated corners of the globe to the Rocky Mountains and the Yukon, living off grid, building by hand and surviving extreme conditions. Encounters with grizzlies, wolves and Arctic storms have all seeped into the band’s evolving sound, giving their music a sense of wildness, resilience and deep connection to the natural world. Black Foxxes remain committed to a simple philosophy: no gimmicks, no polish, just truth.

Their live shows are famously unpredictable, with some nights erupting into sprawling, transcendent jams, while others are stripped back and ragged. No two performances are alike, and that’s exactly the point.

Bursting from the underground with the force of a mycelial bloom, Sweet Giant deliver spitting amps, rattling drums, buzzing oscillators and runaway echo. Their sound feels both earthy and otherworldly, a psychedelic surge that grows, mutates and engulfs.

Opening the night is Dystopia Gently, the project of Birmingham based musician Katherine Evans. Their debut single Chimeras Tonight (Too Mercury) blends upbeat indie rock with shoegaze haze and a nostalgic shimmer, accompanied by a hand drawn animated video where two women fall in love and transform into strange, dreamlike creatures. Expect heartfelt storytelling, queer joy and a sound that refuses to be boxed in.

A beautifully curated evening of atmosphere, noise, tenderness and artistic fearlessness that is ideal for anyone drawn to alt rock that digs deep and leaves a mark.
