Gulp Celebrates IWD 2022

For Starters – Tuesday 8 March, 7.30-10pm

For starters is an intimate evening of shared food and arousing conversation hosted by Dr Gemma Commane.

Gemma is part of the collective visionaries behind Bean Flicks Festival (Birmingham’s 1st ethical, feminist, queer & kink-positive porn festival) and the author of Bad Girls, Dirty Bodies: Sex, Performance and Safe Femininity, published by Bloomsbury Publishing.

Gulp’s intimate 10 seater dining room will provide a safe, non-judgemental space for women to talk openly. The conversation will dip into some of the content explored within Gemma’s book and accompanied by food made for sharing, enabling uninterrupted talk.

As part of this delicious event, Gulp will showcase artworks and objects by some incredible Birmingham based  artists. We will reimagine their use in the service and table decor throughout the evening and a  ‘menu’ of artworks will be available for guests to buy on the evening.

Artists include Sarah Taylor Silverwood, Leah Carless, Siân Tonkin, Joanne Masding, Nuala Clooney & Kaye Winwood.

£40 ticket includes a welcome drink, dinner and lots of lip-smacking conversation; available to buy here

#IWDfangirling – Tuesday 8 March, online @kayewinwoodprojects

#IWDfangirling will provide a great insight into the minds of some of the most creative brains working within the fields of food and sensory design and everything in between.

Gulp has invited some of their favourite female women working within food and sensory design to answer some questions about their practice and upcoming work. Responses will include words and images from legendary food designer Marije Vogelzang (Netherlands), Tasha Marks, AVM (UK) and Saskia Wilson-Brown, Director + Founder of The Institute for Art and Olfaction (US).
