As GULP steps into March, the Birmingham-based sensory dining and creative hub is embracing curiosity, creativity, and connection. This March, the space comes alive with immersive dinners, hands-on workshops, and collaborative experiences celebrating food, art, and local creative talent.
After a sold-out kintsugi workshop in February with artist and jeweller Siobhan Ledden, we are excited to welcome her back on March 11th to co-create a menu for a very special Art Will Eat Itself dinner. We will use and display her art objects within the meal, offering an extraordinarily special insight into her unique practice. The Art Will Eat Itself series is much more than a dinner; it is a dining experience for curious diners seeking an artist-led creative encounter. Have dinner with local creatives and find out what inspires them.
March also brings lots of NEW events to GULP, including the launch of Creative Lunch Club, on Friday 6th March. This event is part of a series of food events by the organisation of the same name, whose aim it is to bring together a global community of creatives. All creatives welcome, whatever the artform – whether you are a food artist, jeweller, graphic designer, a photographer, artist, or a filmmaker – the Creative Lunch Club gives you the chance to meet other creatives in your city for a delicious lunch.
Cooking with Carla, on Saturday 14th, hosted by Matt from Mangia! Mangia!, is a full-day, immersive workshop celebrating the recipes and legacy of the late Carla Tomasi. During the day, you’ll draw from the rich archive of her Cooking with Carla project. This special event invites participants to explore her approach to food through hands-on making, shared stories and a convivial meal. Taking place the day before Mothering Sunday, it can also serve as a thoughtful and nourishing gift.
On 19 March, we launch The Reading Table, a supper club exploring literature through food. Guests are invited to bring a favourite recipe book, a novel, a journal, or an essay – whatever whets their appetite. The intention being to share a love of food as words, metaphors, and images with others. Nerdy foodies and curious appetites are very welcome. We’ll be creating a reading list from guest’s contributions for further inspiration.
Rounding off March, we have a lunch edition of our favourite monthly event – C.U.Next Tuesday – continuing GULP’s engagement with women, with a focus on connection and shared experience.
Every event at GULP is designed to spark curiosity, encourage experimentation with flavours and ideas, and nurture meaningful conversations. These gatherings highlight the joy of communal dining while supporting small, independent creative spaces.
