KIBOU Japanese kitchen and bar is now open on Birmingham’s Temple Row!

Award-winning Japanese restaurant and bar KIBOU has opened its seventh restaurant at 61-63 Temple Row, nestled in the heart of the Colmore Business District and facing onto Cathedral Square.

The new site seats just over 200 covers and is open seven days a week, with late night hours until midnight on Thursdays and 2am on Friday and Saturday. KIBOU opened following a launch party on Friday 9th October.

The interiors have a vibrant and playful feel that begins the moment guests walk through the door, as they are greeted by eye-catching digital animations which set the tone. Created by talented Gloucestershire illustrator Martyna Sabadasz, the animations sit alongside hand-painted murals throughout the restaurant, complementing other Japanese design touches including iconic Japanese block print upholstery and neon kanji signs.

The basement has a real wow factor, with more digital animations set against deep, rich colours and plush upholstery, and cosy booths and relaxed seating for settling in for the evening.

The restaurant offers both bookable and walk-in space, with a relaxed, contemporary feel. A large open bar anchors the venue, an exposed open sushi bar allows guests to sit up close and watch the chefs at work, while the main open kitchen overlooks the restaurant tables on the ground floor.

The restaurant also boasts a stylish private dining room for up to 18 guests, with exclusive hire of the basement also available on selected days for up to 60 guests.

KIBOU’s two kitchens allow for a diverse menu, celebrating classic and contemporary Japanese cuisine. Guests can enjoy Japanese small plates including traditional chicken karaage, takoyaki and pork gyoza, as well as warming ramen, homemade katsu curries and teriyakis. For something special there is A5 grade wagyu, plus a range of signature and traditional sushi, sashimi and tataki, including KIBOU’s iconic Volcano Roll, one of the group’s most popular dishes

Complementing the food, the generous drinks offering includes signature Japanese-inspired cocktails, whiskies, beers and spirits.

The rich, elegant design was created by Q&A Interior Design Ltd. KIBOU Birmingham joins existing restaurants in Cambridge, Cheltenham, Battersea, Clifton, Solihull and Oxford, with a further restaurant due to open in London’s Covent Garden next year.

Gemma Hutchinson, Senior General Manager at KIBOU, expressed her excitement about the opening: “Birmingham has been a long time coming for KIBOU as a whole, and marks a real step change for the company. We looked for a long time to find the right venue, and Temple Row suits us perfectly. Since moving in, we have loved getting to know the area, and have been bowled over by the warm response to the opening. Our opening party was a great opportunity to show off the space and kick-start our further adventures in the West Midlands. Thank you to everyone who has supported this opening, we can’t wait to welcome our new guests through the doors.”

Head Chef Pritam Majumder adds: “We have a great kitchen team here in Birmingham who have already gelled together perfectly and are eager to get going. Having two kitchens gives us the freedom to offer a really diverse Japanese menu, from the classics our guests know and love to something a little more special. We are loving the feedback we have had on the dishes so far.”
