Kilo Ziro’s mission in 2022 was to create a Café Bar that aligned with the core ethos of their sister establishment, The Clean Kilo zero waste grocery store, which is focused on supporting local businesses, reducing food waste, and minimising plastic pollution. The diversification from a sustainable Digbeth-based grocery store to a sustainable café and cocktail bar has been an inspiring journey, and these two accolades symbolise the dedication and hard work put into this vision. When planning Kilo Ziro, the team set out to deliver the finest Afternoon Tea experience, and they are thrilled to have achieved that with the unwavering support of local and small-scale producers and suppliers. Kilo Ziro believes the success of its Afternoon Tea is down to their ethos of supporting local, quality producers, suppliers and bakers such as Artisan Epicurean (private chef in Harborne), The Sunshine Bakehouse, Hundred House Coffee, and many others. Local blogger Bababouttown has listed it has the ‘Best in Birmingham’ and The Olive Magazine as ‘Best Afternoon Teas outside London’.
Jeanette Pell one of the Co-founders said ‘There are no dry cut finger sandwiches in our Afternoon Tea, expect delicious mouthfuls of hand-crafted pieces such as Camembert chipotle chilli jam tart or Cheese sable and whipped goat’s cheese with candy beets – a good amount of savoury items. This is balanced with a delicious selection of sweet delights such as Muscovado fruit meringues and sultana & biscuit tiffin and served by our friendly team in the beautiful setting of KILO ZIRO. Our Afternoon tea has been specially designed with no meat – and all items support other local independent businesses – delivered in returnable containers. All these aspects make our Afternoon Tea as sustainable as possible, with no sacrifice to quality or experience.’
