Magnetic Skies return to Birmingham on Wednesday, 5th November, headlining The Victoria as part of their UK tour in support of forthcoming album Fragments, out Friday 7th November. Known for their evocative blend of synth-pop, new wave and darkwave textures, the band, formed by Simon Kent and Jo Womar, craft cinematic soundscapes built on vintage analogue synths, pulsing basslines and soaring choruses.
Originally a studio project, Magnetic Skies evolved into a live act with the addition of drummer Lenin Alegria, and their debut album Empire Falling (2023) marked a dramatic entry into the UK electronic scene. Their latest singles, “A Place On Earth” and “Back To Life”, continue to showcase their signature mix of glacial atmospheres and euphoric hooks.
Joining them is Birmingham’s Ray Heart, a singer-songwriter whose velvety vocals and striking guitar work create a sound that’s both mystifying and emotionally raw. Influenced by icons like Stevie Nicks and David Bowie, Ray’s music blends 80s drum beats with personal storytelling, delivering a powerful, honest performance.
Opening the night are HaHa Hats, a Birmingham trio whose sound defies categorisation. With warped melodies, offbeat rhythms and carnival-mirror pop, they channel the eccentricity of Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, the synth weirdness of Gary Numan, and the theatrical stomp of Nick Cave. Expect a set that’s strange, joyful and utterly unpredictable.
A night of synth-pop shimmer, alt-rock honesty and sonic oddities awaits. Tickets available now.
