UB40 will perform a special concert in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Star Appeal, as part of The Superhero Challenge.
Thursday, November 17 at 7pm, Birmingham’s legendary reggae band UB40 will perform an intimate concert at Park Regis Hotel Birmingham as part of a charity fundraising evening in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s £3.65 million Star Appeal, to create the UK’s first centre for children with rare diseases.
The event, which sold out within an hour of going on-sale, has already raised over £10,000, with more donations and auctions being made on the evening. It is part of The Superhero Challenge – an attempt to break the World Record, by six athletes, for the longest consecutive workout (26 hours) and raise £100,000, taking place on November 20th.
Lenny Scarlett, one of the athletes taking part in the challenge and the curator of the charity gig with UB40, said:
We’ve had such an unbelievable amount of support already and are pleased to be raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Star Appeal.
The tickets sold-out so quickly with this event, and we’ve already raised over £30,000, so we plan to go even bigger next year to continue our support for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
UB40 guitarist & vocalist Robin Campbell said,
We love intimate gigs and it’s for a great cause, so we’re really looking forward to it.
Elinor Eustace, Deputy Director of Fundraising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said:
We are so incredibly grateful to Lenny and his friends for supporting our charity in this unique way.
UB40 are such big stars and to have them supporting our Star Appeal is simply fantastic. Our new Rare Diseases Centre will be the first of its kind in the UK and all the money raised will make a big difference to our brave children and young people living with a rare or undiagnosed condition.
