Rosie Tee – new mini-album ‘Night Creature’ + UK tour

Rosie Tee is the musical project of the composer and performer of the same name, alongside a group of a close-knit musician friends and collaborators, who collectively forge an innovative, atmospheric avant-garde blend of electronica and psych amongst the industrial backdrop of the UK’s second city, Birmingham.

Following a run of well received EPs, (the last 2021’s Earth, Embrace Me In – a conceptual love letter for a dying planet – was hailed as “truly mind-altering” (Earmilk) with BBC Radio 6 support), Rosie Tee announces their debut mini-album, the spellbinding Night Creature out on 26 April 2024.

They also share the experimental electronic pop of first single ‘Lectern‘ with its expanding cyclical groove and lyrics exploring what Tee calls “information overload and digital crosstalk.”

The mini-album Night Creature will be the first release on Tee’s newly launched label Kikimora Records, established to push the midland’s blossoming underground avant-garde scene to a UK-wide audience – and beyond. The label name derives from the Polish word for a female house spirit, as Tee explains “The kikimora is often visualised as a moth, she can be either a ‘cruel’ or a ‘kind’ spirit depending on the house in which she dwells, she can be a caring protector of a bringer of havoc.”

Tee’s Polish heritage is also explored on the mini-album Night Creature alongside a preoccupation for the ecological, with the 6-songs representing a kind of otherworldly love letter to nature, whilst also re-imagining the folk tales from Tee’s Eastern European roots. All to an intoxicating and hallucinatory soundscape of lush textures, purring synths, spacious beats, manipulated vocals, pedals, and glockenspiel; laced with the colourful, imaginative folkloric lyrics that float above the hypnotic electronica and intricate orchestrations.

Night Creature was written in an old church in the Brecon Beacons, with the tracks carefully arranged by Tee and her band over almost two years of rehearsals and live shows, finally committing them to recordings in the Spring of 2023. Produced by Town Studios and mastered by Weird Jungle. Created with support from Arts Council England and Help Musicians UK.
