The Commitments – A celebration and reunion in Birmingham

Two original stars of Cult Irish film The Commitments will be reuniting in Birmingham in September for a celebration of the 1991 Alan Parker film.

The film, adapted from a book written by Roddy Doyle and directed by Alan Parker told the story of a group of aspiring Musicians from Dublin who put together a Soul band with the help of their Manager Jimmy Rabbitte to escape the drudgery of everyday life, inspired by legends of Soul such as Marvin Gaye and James Brown.

Many of the young actors such as Angeline Ball and Bronagh Gallagher went on to become established stars of Film and TV in EastEnders and Shameless to name but a few.

On September 28th 2024 two of the stars, Robert Arkins who played lead role Jimmy Rabbitte and Dave Finnegan who played hardman Mickah Wallace will be reuniting for a special Commitments evening at The Crossing in Digbeth, Birmingham in the heart of the Irish Quarter.

There will be a Q+A with both actors followed by a screening of the film and a musical performance by Dave Finnegan’s 8 piece Commitments band playing all the hits from the film plus a special DJ set by Robert Arkins.

The night will be hosted by Dublin DJ Jacqui Carroll.
