Upon the arrival of the highly-anticipated Commonwealth Games, Birmingham’s newest wine bar, Vinoteca, has unveiled a specially designed wine tasting paddle to celebrate the flavours of the Commonwealth.
Located at Two Chamberlain Square in the city centre’s Paradise development, the team at Vinoteca have hand-picked three wines to showcase vineyards across the UK, Australia and South Africa.
Available for the duration of the games, the £10 limited-edition tasting paddle features a Bristolian Nania’s Vineyard Rose Spritzer, made from the Rondo grapes grown in Sussex; Rodney & The Horse Riesling, using fruit from the Clare Valley vineyard in Australia; and a South African Papegaai Dry Red, which showcases fruit from over 20 vineyards on the Badenhorst farm in Swartland.
Each paddle will be accompanied by a tasting sheet for guests to discover the flavour profiles and tasting notes behind each wine, with facts about their originating countries and vineyards.
For those looking to taste more grapes of the Commonwealth, Vinoteca’s extensive drinks menu features more than 200 wines, with bins from the five original member states.
Having officially opened its doors on 18th July, the city centre location is open seven days a week for brunch, lunch and evening meals, with a modern-British menu including small plates, bar snacks and sharers.

“When tasting wine, the origin of the grape and the way it is produced makes every flavour profile entirely unique, and we felt this was the perfect time to share some of our favourite wines, from both the British Isles and the other side of the globe, which guests may not have had the chance to try before.”
