Mitchells & Butlers has invested more than £1 million in transforming the former Windsor pub on New Street into a new O’Neill’s venue, creating 11 new jobs in the heart of Birmingham.
O’Neill’s New Street opened to the public on Saturday 18th July, following an extensive refurbishment and conversion of the city-centre site.
The opening represents a significant investment in Birmingham city centre by Birmingham-headquartered hospitality group Mitchells & Butlers, with 11 new team members recruited from more than 200 applications.
The £1 million-plus transformation includes a full redecoration and conversion of the venue, alongside the restoration of its second floor, which has not traded for some years.
The previously unused floor has been brought back to life with a new mezzanine-style design overlooking the main bar, creating additional trading and entertainment space and allowing the venue to host live music and events across two floors.
The new site showcases O’Neill’s latest design template, which has already received positive feedback elsewhere in the estate, while continuing to evolve the format with a focus on the brand’s key reasons to visit: live sport, live music and social experiences.
The venue features multiple large screens throughout for live sport, a dedicated stage upstairs and the flexibility to host live music across both floors.
Four Arrowsmiths electronic dart boards have also been installed, including three upstairs and Birmingham’s first accessible Arrowsmiths oche downstairs. The boards can be booked individually or collectively for larger groups and events.
Marianne Malthouse, General Manager at O’Neill’s New Street, said:
“We are very proud to be opening our doors to the brand-new O’Neill’s New Street.
“This has been such a fantastic project to be a part of, and we can’t wait for our guests, old and new, to come and enjoy everything we have to offer.
“Watching the transformation unfold has been incredible, and we’re truly excited to see it in action and to show our guests a great time.”
The new venue will offer O’Neill’s established food and drink menu, including the Mighty Guinness Burger, loaded waffle fries and newly introduced rice bowls, alongside a regular programme of live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The opening forms part of the continued evolution of the O’Neill’s brand, combining its established reputation for value, drinks and Irish hospitality with an enhanced focus on experiential reasons to visit.
