ALFRESCO AT ALFRED WORKS OPENS AHEAD OF SPRING BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Alfresco at Alfred Works, a major new outdoor social space combining street food, live sport and outdoor entertainment, is now open.

The venue opened on Digbeth’s Floodgate Street on Wednesday, 20 May, ahead of a packed Bank Holiday weekend opening programme. Across the Bank Holiday weekend, Alfresco at Alfred Works will be hosting Family Fest, a series of activities including family entertainment, kids’ crafts, live DJs, street performers, film screenings and live music.

Located next to the Alfred Works Food Hall, which opened in February, the new venue has a purpose-built indoor sports bar at its heart, designed for watching live sport and socialising. Featuring large screens and space for up to 300 guests, the space provides the perfect setting for a summer of major sporting events, group meet-ups and casual drinks.

The extended outdoor area is home to communal seating, a DJ booth, flexible event space, supporting year-round programming and a four-strong line-up of new street food kitchens, including:

Broke N’ Bone BBQ
An award-winning live-fire and smoke BBQ concept serving modern Texas-style barbecue, including brisket, pulled pork and peach tea burnt ends. Founder Steve’s craft has been widely recognised within the UK BBQ scene, most recently winning the Critics’ Choice Award at Fume, a UK BBQ festival founded by influencer Eating with Tod.

Howlin’ Chicken
Founded 18 months ago by friends Hamza, Ibby and Sheraz, Howlin’ Chicken brings Nashville-style hot chicken to the Midlands. The concept uses a heavily seasoned signature batter and bold spice blends, refined to reflect Birmingham’s diverse food culture. The menu is designed to be accessible to a wide audience, including halal diners.

Char’d By Esmie
Char’d By Esmie is a Caribbean, live-fire BBQ concept inspired by cookouts, roadside grills and traditional charcoal cooking across St Kitts and the wider Caribbean. Founded by Esmie, who was born in St Kitts, the concept brings Caribbean heritage to Alfresco through open-flame cooking, slow-layered spices and bold marinades.

Brúm Mi
Brúm Mi was founded by Bruce and Sam following two years of travel across Southeast Asia and Australia between 2016 and 2018, where they developed a deep appreciation for Vietnamese bánh mì. After returning to the UK, they found authentic bánh mì difficult to access outside London, inspiring them to create Brúm Mi. What began as a lockdown project has since evolved into a refined street food concept, first trialled at local Birmingham events.

A covered canopy structure allows Alfresco to operate year-round, while an outdoor cinema, table tennis and live entertainment programme ensure there is something to keep every visitor entertained.

Alfresco has been designed to appeal to families, with a dedicated children’s play area featuring a ship-themed climbing structure and interactive and sensory elements, which will be open throughout the year.
