New independent owners bring fresh energy to one of the city’s best-loved pubs ahead of England’s opening World Cup fixture
One of Birmingham’s most recognisable pubs is set to make a triumphant return just in time for England’s World Cup campaign, as Gosta Green reopens under new independent ownership this June.
The popular city centre venue will officially welcome customers back on Tuesday 17 June, coinciding with England’s opening match of the tournament and offering football fans one of the best places in Birmingham to watch the action unfold.
Marking the reopening will be an exclusive ticketed launch event featuring former Aston Villa and England striker Gabby Agbonlahor, hosted by football broadcaster and pundit Dan Bardell. Guests will have the opportunity to hear stories from Gabby’s playing career, discuss England’s chances on the world stage and enjoy an entertaining evening of football discussion ahead of kick-off.
Located in the heart of Birmingham’s Eastside district, Gosta Green has long been a favourite among students, city workers and sports fans. The venue has undergone a refresh and repaint under its new independent owners, who are committed to restoring the pub as a go-to destination for live sport, great food and quality drinks. A major refurbishment carried out by the previous owners just 18 months ago provides an excellent foundation for the venue’s next chapter.
Football supporters can look forward to watching every England game on multiple large screens throughout the venue, including within one of Birmingham city centre’s largest beer gardens. With both indoor and outdoor viewing areas, fans will be able to soak up the tournament atmosphere whatever the weather.
The new owners have also begun installing a giant outdoor screen above a street food container, allowing customers easy access to food without missing a moment of the action. Alongside the outdoor offering, a wider indoor menu will be available throughout the tournament before evolving into a new seasonal menu after the World Cup, featuring a range of dishes, offers and options to suit all tastes.
The reopening marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Gosta Green, with plans for a packed programme of live sport, entertainment, food offers and community events throughout the year. Popular fixtures, including the venue’s well-established karaoke nights, will also continue.
A spokesperson for Gosta Green said:
“We’re delighted to be bringing Gosta Green back to life and couldn’t think of a better time to reopen than on the day of England’s opening World Cup match. The pub has always been a special venue for Birmingham and we’re excited to welcome both old and new customers through the doors.”
“Whether you’re joining us for the Gabby Agbonlahor event hosted by Dan Bardell or coming along to watch the football, we’ve created a fantastic space for people to enjoy the tournament with great food, drinks and atmosphere.”
“While England’s opening game provides the perfect occasion for our reopening, Gosta Green is very much a pub for everyone. We welcome supporters of every club, every nation and every sporting background. Birmingham is one of the most diverse and passionate sporting cities in the country and we want the pub to reflect that. This isn’t a one-club pub or a one-nation pub – it’s a place where people can come together to enjoy sport, good company and a great atmosphere.”
