Lycio bring something truly special to The Victoria on Friday, 25th September, headlining with a two set performance that marks a decade of their boundary pushing electronic hybrid sound. Joined by avant garde hip hop artist Naomi Dawes, the night promises innovation, intensity and a rare glimpse into the trio’s next chapter.
Fresh from their BBC Airwaves Festival appearance alongside Griff and Rag ’n’ Bone Man, Lycio return to Birmingham with an ambitious concept. Their first set revisits material from across their catalogue, showcasing the evolution that has defined them since forming on the day of the UK referendum vote. The second set is where things get truly unique: a full performance of an entirely new, unreleased 10 track album. Ten new songs, marking ten years of fearless creativity.
Lycio have built a reputation as one of the UK’s most forward thinking independent acts, performing at CarFest, Big Feastival and The Great Escape, and supporting artists including Rae Morris, YONAKA, Self Esteem and Low Island.
Their live shows are known for precision, emotion and a commitment to doing everything fully live: no backing tracks, no playback, just three multi instrumentalists creating a sound that’s both intricate and immediate.
Vocalist and lyricist Genie Mendez brings raw emotional depth, often exploring mental health and personal resilience. Keyboardist Charlie Kellie adds a distinctive edge with custom built software designed specifically for live performance, while drummer Alex Lowe anchors the trio with dynamic, expressive percussion. After the two set show, Genie and the band will keep the energy high with a DJ set until close.
Opening the night is Birmingham based Naomi Dawes, whose commanding vocals and experimental avant garde hip hop production make her one of the city’s most compelling emerging artists. As a fully self contained writer, producer and performer, her live sets are known for their intensity, precision and magnetic presence.
