‘un-fixed’ – 32 local artists bring abstract art to nook gallery

4–22 November 2026 | nook gallery, Kings Heath, Birmingham

What happens when art lets go of the familiar?

‘un-fixed’ brings together 32 local artists in an exhibition celebrating the possibilities of abstract art. Curated by Birmingham-based abstract painter Sam Weeks, the exhibition invites visitors to look differently, loosen their expectations and discover what happens when art steps away from recognisable forms.

Rooted in the Latin abstrahere — meaning “to draw away” — abstraction offers artists ways to give form to ideas, emotions, memories and experiences that may resist words or have no fixed visual form of their own. For viewers, it opens space to make personal associations, follow unexpected thoughts and engage with artworks on their own terms.

There is no single way to make or experience abstract art. Instead, ‘un-fixed’ offers an invitation to embrace uncertainty, practise ‘creative seeing’ and leave with your mind buzzing with new ideas.

Private view: Friday 6 November, 7–9pm

Venue: nook gallery, 25c Institute Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham

Opening hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 11am–4pm.
