One of Europe’s most exhilarating live bands heads to Birmingham this November as Antwerp Gipsy Ska Orkestra headline The Victoria on Friday 13th November.
Born from the multicultural heart of Antwerp, the band embody the spirit of a city where ideas, traditions and cultures collide. That same philosophy runs through their music, blending ska, gypsy folk, Balkan sounds, punk energy and global influences into a vibrant and unmistakable style that has captivated audiences across the continent.
Since forming more than twenty years ago, Antwerp Gipsy Ska Orkestra have built a formidable live reputation, performing in countries across Europe and appearing at some of the continent’s biggest festivals, including Sziget, Lowlands and Dour. Their joyous, high-octane performances have earned them a devoted following and opportunities to open for artists including Peter Gabriel.
While their records capture the richness of their songwriting and musicianship, it is on stage where the band truly come alive. Every performance feels like a travelling carnival, driven by infectious rhythms, communal spirit and an atmosphere that encourages audiences to lose themselves in the moment.
Their most recent album, ‘Revolution (Has Never Been Simple)’, continues that tradition, combining powerful messages with danceable grooves and the genre-defying approach that has become their trademark. The result is music that’s uplifting, adventurous and impossible to stand still through.
For anyone looking to escape the ordinary for a few hours, this promises to be a night of celebration, movement and musical adventure. Antwerp Gipsy Ska Orkestra don’t just play shows, they throw parties, and Birmingham is invited.
