An evening of fearless songwriting and emotionally charged performance awaits at The Victoria on Thursday 22nd October as acclaimed Welsh artist Bryde headlines, joined by special guests Al Lewis and Hannah Michell.
The project of songwriter Sarah Howells, Bryde has earned a devoted following through music that balances vulnerability and strength in equal measure. Built around powerful melodies, sharp lyrical observations and an unmistakable emotional intensity, her songs move effortlessly between tenderness and confrontation, often within the same breath.
Drawing comparisons to artists as diverse as Stevie Nicks, Jeff Buckley, The Cranberries and Lucy Dacus, Bryde’s work explores the complexities of relationships, identity and personal growth with remarkable honesty.
Since emerging with her debut album Like An Island, Bryde has become one of the UK’s most respected independent artists, earning support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio Wales. Across three critically acclaimed albums, she has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, played major festivals including Green Man and Latitude, opened for Rufus Wainwright and sold out headline shows across the UK. Her third album, Still, was nominated for the Welsh Music Prize, further cementing her reputation as one of Britain’s most compelling songwriters.
Joining her is fellow Welsh songwriter Al Lewis, whose rich catalogue spans seven albums across both English and Welsh languages. Renowned for his heartfelt songwriting and intimate performances, Lewis has built an impressive career that includes nominations for the Welsh Music Prize, multiple BBC Radio Cymru awards and support from broadcasters including Bob Harris, Dermot O’Leary, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens.
His warm blend of folk, Americana and acoustic storytelling has seen him perform at Nashville’s Americana Music Festival and support Jools Holland on tour, including a sold-out appearance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Opening the evening is Birmingham singer-songwriter Hannah Michell, whose folk-blues sound draws inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks and Brandi Carlile. With soulful vocals and deeply personal songwriting, Hannah’s music explores the quiet spaces between love and loss, creating intimate moments that resonate long after the final note.
A beautifully curated night of indie, folk and Americana from three exceptional songwriters. For anyone drawn to music that values honesty, emotional depth and lyrical craftsmanship, this promises to be a truly special evening at The Victoria.
