Do you know your Bramleys from your Pippins? Or your Galas from your Coxs? Harvest season is here and Blakesley Hall has the perfect opportunity to discover the many different varieties of Great British apples at its popular Apple Day on Sunday 3October.
Blakesley Hall – a picture-perfect timber framed Tudor house situated just a few miles from Birmingham city centre – has been celebrating apple harvest for over 20 years and its one-day seasonal event includes the chance to harvest your own apples from the Hall’s orchard.
The Apple Day is a family friendly event for all ages. Starting at 11am the day offers an apple trail for children, an arts and craft market and a chance to sample some Birmingham Black Butter – a local apple jam based on a tasty traditional recipe.
Over 50 varieties of English apples will be available for tasting thanks to local arts venture, The Pomology Project. Visitors can also test their pedalling power on the Cherry Minder – a unique bicycle powered bird-scarer. Blakesley Hall will be open for self-guided tours and delicious food will be on offer in the Herb Garden Café. And, in the Hall’s garden’s the Glorishears Morris Dancers will bring merriment and entertainment.
