Attic Brew Co.

Tucked away, on a quiet unsuspecting street in Stirchley, exists vegan friendly Attic Brew Co.

Literally a stones throw from Bournville train station, Attic Brew Co. has been carefully honing its brewing techniques whilst quenching the thirst of many an inquisitive Brummie.

Attic Brew Co. was borne out of years of beer consumption and small scale production. Oli and Sam met at university in Cardiff where their beer obsession began. Sam began brewing in his bedroom of their shared house and continued after graduating, moving back to Birmingham and setting up his home brewery in his attic.

In 2018, after they’d had the ridiculous idea to start a brewery, Oli left his job in London and moved to Birmingham. They took out a loan, rented a run down old industrial unit in Stirchley and bought a small brew kit that was older than they were. Several months of painting, building and, finally, brewing, allowed them to open the taproom doors on the 23rd November 2018.

Attic is constantly evolving, including the installation of a new 10bbl plant (quadrupling original capacity) and the beginnings of a barrel ageing program, the first bottles of which are now available. The original Attic kit is still on show above the bar, showing just how far this duo (and team) have come.

Their aim has always been to provide locals with a meeting place, beer fans with a destination and local artists of all kinds with a place to showcase their work. This is prevalent the moment you walk in, reminiscent of the old beer kellers, with benches and adjoining tables inside, thus encouraging punters to be communal, and social whilst enjoying their favorite tipple.

Attic’s focus is on serving a wide variety of beer styles, straight to the customer. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re a lover of hoppy pales, fruit beers, lagers or yeast forward styles like saisons and wheat beers. The taproom has been designed as a community meeting place and many of the beers are brewed to session strength to promote social drinking.

Beer isn’t your thing? No problem, everyone’s welcome with a great selection of wines, spirits and ciders to choose from. Attic Brew Co. is also dog friendly and under 18s are welcome until 6 o’clock. There’s a street food vendor outside in the small courtyard on weekends – no one wants to drink on an empty stomach!
