19 October 2026: A new maths learning centre will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zaker Choudhry in Northfield, Birmingham on 24 October 2026. Mathnasium, a leader in maths only education with centres across the UK, has recently begun welcoming children for free assessments at its brand new centre located in the Northfield Shopping Centre, and now offers one to one tuition to help develop skills and confidence in maths.
Northfield is Mathnasium’s 48th centre to open in the UK and the maths specialist is set to reach 60 by the end of the year and 100 by end-2027.
Mathnasium Northfield is owned by Mehdi Bahramchoobin who also runs Mathnasium Kings Heath. He commented: “We are excited to be welcomed into the community and look forward to our grand opening. I’m driven by a passion to support learning in maths, a subject which can be one of the toughest to master. It’s wonderful to watch students’ confidence grow as they gain more understanding and skills.”
Mehdi Bahramchoobin was an accountant for 12 years and has an MBA in Financial Analysis. Mehdi’s wife is a Maths teacher in a local school, and she also joins Mathnasium from time to time to help children with exam technique.
At the new maths learning centre, students are assessed to understand their individual strengths and any gaps in their knowledge, before a bespoke learning plan is created to help them build their skills, understanding and confidence in maths – whether they need to catch up, keep pace or get ahead.
“Mathnasium is different because we teach maths for understanding, rather than simply teaching children to memorise methods and processes,” explains Mehdi Bahramchoobin. “Through the Mathnasium MethodTM, each child follows a bespoke learning plan that builds strong mathematical foundations and develops their understanding step by step. As their understanding grows, so too do their confidence, problem solving and critical thinking skills. In fact, 94% of parents across our centres report an improvement in their child’s maths skills and understanding.
“We are now looking forward to supporting our community, working closely with local schools and helping students succeed in developing their maths skills.”
The official ‘Grand Opening’ on Saturday 24 October, will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zaker Choudhry. Everyone is welcome between 2.30-5pm. There will be a centre tour, a short ribbon-cutting ceremony with a few words from The Mayor, followed by fun maths games and activities. The open day offers the opportunity for families to find out more about Mathnasium and how the team can support their child, book a free maths assessment, as well as refreshments and prizes!
Mathnasium Northfield is located at 33-37, Northfield Shopping Centre, Birmingham and is now open five days a week: Monday-Thursday 11am-7.30pm and Saturday 10am-2pm.
