San Proper preview + Ohme at Colore Q&A

Coloré, Moulin Groove & Cache Present… An Evening With San Proper (Rush Hour, Perlon)

THE RAINBOW ROOFTOP, DIGBETH

FRIDAY JUNE 23RD // 10pm-5am Tickets available

Coloré is back, jumping headfirst into the summer season with its 4th instalment after the success of their 100 cap third party with Berlin Deep House Don, MOOMIN. The venue was buzzing with deep beats and chords from start to finish and Moomin didn’t disappoint!

We extend our latest invite to Amsterdam underground star SAN PROPER for a debut set in Birmingham on the Rainbow Rooftop, for an electronic music rumble alongside trusted residents and guests. Known for his Sleaze-Driven House, Disco & Techno sets, Dr. San Proper will deliver a perfect soundtrack for a cool summer night in one of Birmingham’s best outdoor underground spaces!

I’ve attended one of their events myself and have only good things to say. Proper parties in proper venues with proper music – what’s not to love!

Ohme at Coloré Q&A

We did a short Q&A to find out more about what’s in store for the upcoming evening and more about the new party on the block…

Q: So we’ve already posted about your next event, ‘An Evening with San Proper,’ so could you tell us a little more about the headliner and why you’ve chosen him for this event?

A: San Proper has been on our radar for a while now, we just needed the timing and venue to be right. He possesses that edge that our previous headliners have had with his articulate style of DJing and unique productions. We’re expecting a riot of leftfield House, Techno and Sleazy Underground Sounds!

Q: The Colore events are usually held at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath but An Evening with San Proper is going to be on the Rainbow Rooftop  Terrace. Could you talk us through the change in venue?

A: We love the Hare and Hounds and have worked with Matt and Adam from back in the “Bulls Head” days so we still see the venue as our home really, we started the “Evening with” series there joining up with a collective of brands like Fables, Moodfix, Moulin Groove and Cache  and will be back there in September. The Rainbow Rooftop was our top choice of venue for the summer San Proper party, we’ve always loved the space and we believe the Roof Garden is the most exciting outdoor space for an artist like San Proper.

Q: So you’ve had quite an eclectic mix of DJs performing at Colore events such as Harvey Sutherland Moomin and Session Victim, but you’ve also held a few free parties too. What would you say the concept behind the party is, what vibe are you hoping to create?

A: We’ve been running on Colore parties for about 4 years now we brought likes of Joss Moog, Prosumer and Moodymanc to Moseley and Kings Heath, I think were known for deep house sounds. Last year we realised that some “promotion” friends were occasionally hitting similar styles of acts to our own so we met up and decided to work as a collective and bring some of the Dj’s and producers we love to Birmingham together.

Q: There are so many talented house and techno DJs and producers around at the moment, what would you say you look out for when considering who to book, is there a particular sound or style that perfectly fits the Colore parties?

A: We’re really into the deep underground artists from the US such as Marcellus Pittman, Omar S, Larry Heard & Jovonn. We also like the deep sounds emerging out of Europe with the likes of Frits Wentink, Youandewan, Palms Trax & Tom Trago. The deep disco sound from Australia with the likes of Harvey Sutherland & Francis Inferno Orchestra is also very interesting. There is always a common thread when we think about who we want to bring, Deep.

Thanks again to Ohme at Coloré for chatting with us. This event looks sure to be a night of seriously good vibes and music on the Rainbow rooftop looking over the city. Check out the event page on Facebook for more details and be sure to follow the guys on social to catch the news of future parties.
