Shibuya Underground & Arch 13 Event – 31st March 2022

New Japanese bar to host Birmingham’s first cheese and sake event with local cheese connoisseurs Arch 13!

The award winning team behind The Pineapple Club have announced that they are launching a new event in the anticipated build up to the opening of Shibuya Underground, a cocktail and sake specialist bar. A cheese and sake pairing evening with Birmingham based Arch 13!

Samuel Boulton the founder of The Pineapple Club has had a love of Japan for many years and after spending some time there in 2018 Boulton has had his eyes set on a Japanese Sake bar ever since.

Boulton said “I’ve really wanted to bring a taste of japan (in a truely authentic way for a long time, it’s taken a long time to find the right spot and develop the idea enough to get it ready. Covid has slowed down the opening with our imports from Japan taking longer to arrive than we’d have hoped (such as the 12 ceremonial Sake barrels which arrived early this month!) but I’m really excited for early 2022 when we can finally show Birmingham what we’ve created”. Shibuya Underground will have a tasting style drinks menu (with a choice of Sake or Japanese Cocktails) with 6 courses of drinks on each menu. The bar will also be hosting a “Sake School” lead by Samuel Boulton, their in-house sake expert.

In the build up to the opening Shibuya Underground is teaming up with Birmingham cheese legend Abigail Connolly of Arch 13 to bring a new and fun event to Brum. Boulton and Connolly are both huge lovers of their craft as well as well qualified to be the best people to guide you through. Connolly is a certified cheese professional, having recently qualified as a Member of the Academy of Cheese, on top of being one of Birmingham’s well established Sommeliers. Boulton is the city’s leading expert on sake, recently completing the UK’s hardest sake qualification and is working with the British Sake Association to bring more sake love to the city.

Join us for an evening of cheese, sake, learning and fun lead by two of the city’s leading experts. The experience includes a welcome drink, and tasting menu of 4 sakes paired with selected cheese.

Tickets for the event are £35 per head and on sale now (with only a limited number of 30 available), Thursday 31st March, 7pm at Arch 13. Bookings can be made through arch13bar.co.uk.
