Thinktank Science Museum Celebrates 20th Birthday with a Free Weekend

Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum is celebrating its 20th birthday with a free weekend for all the family on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2021.

Free tickets for Thinktank’s 20th weekend can be booked online from today, Monday 20 September. As well as celebrating two decades of award-winning science exhibitions, the museum will be looking to the future with the completion of its Our Changing Planet gallery. All areas of the museum will be free to explore and there’ll be extra activities to enjoy too including science busking experiments. Tickets can also be purchased for shows in the museum’s Planetarium.

Laurence Butler, Museum Manager at Thinktank says:

“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate 20 years of Thinktank than with a free weekend for all the family.  In our first two decades we’ve welcomed more than 4 million visitors to explore and learn about the science of the world all around us. Over the birthday weekend we’ll be looking to the future with our new display on climate change and sustainable living as part of the Our Changing Planet gallery. Come and join us!”

Thinktank’s Our Changing Planet gallery explores how humans have changed the world and how these changes are affecting the natural environment today. The first part of this fascinating gallery opened in May and now visitors can learn about climate change and sustainable living with a new additional display.

From steam engines and talking robots through to gurgling guts and a chocolate wrapping machine, Thinktank has over 200 hands-on displays on science and technology. The museum houses four floors of exhibits and historical collections plus MiniBrum – an interactive mini-city for under 8s, a Planetarium and Science Garden.

Tickets for Thinktank’s 20th Free Weekend on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2021 must be booked in advance via the website. Planetarium show tickets (not included in the free entry) cost £2.50.
