A night of boundary pushing electronics, alt pop experimentation and theatrical chaos arrives at The Victoria on Wednesday, 20th May, as TAMIW headline with special guest Dead Happy.
Formed in 2018 by vocalist Tami, Tokyo via Osaka outfit TAMIW have steadily carved out a reputation as one of Japan’s most distinctive underground acts. Their debut album ‘Flower Vases’ landed the same year, followed by a 20 date US tour in 2019 and the release of ‘Future Exercise’ in 2020. These early milestones cemented their blend of bass driven electronics, hip hop textures, analogue synths and left field pop sensibility.
Since 2020, the band have crafted their music at Hidden Place, a recording studio tucked inside a temple in Osaka’s Sakai City, a setting that mirrors their atmospheric, off centre sound world.
With Taichi’s arrival in late 2023, TAMIW entered a new creative phase, culminating in their fourth album, ‘Farewell Party’, released this May. Expect warped beats, hypnotic vocals, deep cut sampling and a genre bending approach that feels both intimate and otherworldly.
If Frankenstein ever turned to music, the result would be Dead Happy. Led by the eccentric Professor Partorius, they don’t write songs so much as conduct sonic experiments. Drawing from Mindless Self Indulgence, System of a Down and Electric Six, their sound fuses industrial chaos, theatrical humour and high voltage weirdness into something gloriously unhinged, making them a perfect foil to TAMIW’s sleek electronic world building.
A Wednesday night loaded with avant electronic energy, theatrical oddities and experimental noise, perfect for anyone who loves live music that pushes boundaries, bends genres and refuses to sit still.
