Birmingham Rep announces a special one-off concert, A Night with Meow Meow and Ramin Karimloo on Sunday 16 Augustas part of the launch of its Raise The Roof fundraising campaign.
Whilst The Rep’s main stage, The House, is temporarily closed next year for works to its roof, the Raise The Roof campaign will help The Rep continue to produce ambitious theatre, and support its work across the city in schools and communities, work that positively impacts the lives of thousands of children and young people.
A Night with Meow Meow and Ramin Karimloo will see two of the stars of The Rep’s current production of Sondheim’s musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, take to the stage in a not-to-be-missed evening featuring Ramin and Meow’s favourite showtunes and songs. The show will include a live band of nine, with Dr John Rigby as Musical Supervisor. All proceeds will contribute to The Rep’s Raise The Roof Appeal.
West End, Broadway and international musical theatre star Ramin Karimloo (Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Phantom of The Opera, Les Misérables, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Addams Family) is currently playing the title role of Sweeney Todd. Award-winning singing sensation and radical entertainer, Meow Meow (Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Emma Rice’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Guys and Dolls)plays the iconic part of Mrs. Lovett in the production.
Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street runs at The Rep until Saturday 15 August.
Alongside other fundraising activities, A Night with Meow Meow and Ramin Karimloo will be the first in a series of memorable one-off events taking place over the coming months to support The Rep’s Raise The Roof campaign.
Between February and October 2027, The Rep’s roof will undergo essential works including the removal of RAAC in the original roof structure over the oldest parts of the building, protecting the structure for years to come as well as improving its environmental performance.
During these eight months The Rep’s The House auditorium will temporarily close, but The Rep itself remains open with performances continuing in its other two auditoriums, The Studio and The Door theatres.
The cost of the works to the roof will primarily be covered by £3.047million awarded to The Rep from Arts Council England’s Creative Foundations Fund.
