One of Birmingham’s most historic pubs is proving that age really is just a number as it prepares to celebrate its 658th birthday with a huge free party in the heart of Digbeth.
The Old Crown will mark an incredible 658 years on Saturday 12 September 2026, inviting Brummies to raise a glass to more than six centuries of pints, parties and Birmingham history.
Dating back to 1368, The Old Crown has stood on High Street, Deritend as Birmingham has grown and transformed around it. Now the historic pub is swapping medieval history for live music, DJs and a very big birthday celebration.
Running from 6pm until 1am with free entry, the party will feature live music from Call Me Younique, alongside DJs taking the celebrations through to the early hours.

“There aren’t many pubs that get to celebrate their 658th birthday, so we thought we’d better make a proper night of it! The Old Crown has been part of Digbeth for generations and we love that people are still coming through the doors today for a pint, a party and a good time.
“From our regulars and team to the wider Digbeth community, we want everyone to come down, raise a glass and help us celebrate another year.”
The Grade II listed Old Crown is widely recognised as one of Birmingham’s oldest surviving secular buildings and has an extraordinary story stretching back more than six centuries.
Its origins date to 1368 and are connected to a medieval guildhall, before the building became an inn by 1626. Since then, it has survived centuries of change, periods of conflict, the rapid expansion of Birmingham and even near misses during the Second World War.
Despite everything happening around it, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: The Old Crown has continued bringing people together.
Today, the venue combines its historic surroundings with everything you would expect from modern-day Digbeth, hosting live music, DJs, parties, food, drinks and major events throughout the year.
The 658th birthday celebration will bring together regulars, locals, history lovers, visitors and the wider Digbeth community for a night celebrating both the pub’s extraordinary past and its place in Birmingham today.
And after surviving 658 years of Birmingham history, it seems only right to celebrate with a pint.
