Moseley’s Hidden Greek Gem Celebrates First Anniversary as Visitors Travel from Across the UK

Family-run Greek Aura has become such a destination that guests are now travelling from across the country to visit, with some journeying from as far as London and Scotland to join in the celebrations as the Birmingham restaurant marks its first birthday.

When Greek Aura opened in Moseley a year ago, its ambition was simple: to bring a taste of Greece to the local community. Since then, word has travelled well beyond Birmingham and the restaurant has continued to grow despite challenging times for the hospitality sector.

Its lively Mamma Mia-themed events have helped put Greek Aura on the map. Filled with music, singing and ABBA favourites, they have turned the restaurant’s Greek Garden into a celebration space that draws visitors from far beyond the neighbourhood.

At the heart of the restaurant is a love of sharing Greek food and traditions. Dishes inspired by family recipes are served with a warm welcome, whether guests have travelled five minutes or five hours.

The Greek Garden, launched earlier this year, has added to the appeal, offering diners an outdoor space to enjoy good food and a taste of the holiday feeling in the heart of Moseley.

Restaurant manager Ola Cela said: “Since the launch of the garden, we’ve seen footfall soar to levels busier than we ever anticipated. Evenings are fully booked weeks in advance, and tables turn into late-night gatherings. Families and friends keep coming back, and we’re so grateful for their support. They’ve truly become part of the Greek Aura family.”

As the team celebrates this milestone, it is already looking ahead to the season ahead. Plans are under way for a welcoming, covered winter garden, where guests can enjoy a lantern-lit courtyard and fire pits alongside a seasonal Greek menu and warming winter cocktails. With cosy blankets and mulled wine, it will be an inviting setting for evening dining, festive gatherings with colleagues and family get-togethers.

“We have even more exciting events in store and we can’t wait to share them with everyone,” Ola added.

The menu celebrates traditional Greek favourites, from mezze, souvlaki, moussaka and dolmades to other classic dishes, with vegan and vegetarian options also available. Guests can round off their meal with a selection of homemade desserts, including baklava and the restaurant’s famous orange cake. To complement the authentic flavours on offer, the restaurant also provides a curated selection of fine Greek wines and beers.

Greek Aura has earned rave reviews, a five-star food hygiene rating within its first six months and a second-place listing on Tripadvisor.

One year on, Greek Aura’s story has travelled well beyond Birmimgham, carried by guests who came for a meal and left eager to return with others.
