LOOKS: an educational documentary campaign about appearance, aesthetics and the smile

LOOKS is an educational documentary campaign about appearance and aesthetics, built on the smile and oral health. The campaign includes a feature documentary and an online series, alongside a free educational section at looksphilosophy.com/education. One of the project’s pillars is a series of live conferences, held in capital cities including Milan, Warsaw, Paris, Berlin and Beijing.

Why is LOOKS being created? Even recruitment specialists admit that appearance may have a stronger impact on a career than an impressive CV. Unfortunately, aesthetics has been reduced to applying creams, while in reality it is a field of philosophy focused on appearance. Human appearance, like that of other objects, can be understood beyond a simple “beautiful-ugly” scale. Most people judge appearance on a narrow scale between pretty and ugly, and quietly lose on it. LOOKS exists to show that the scale was always larger, and that almost everyone has more room to move on it than they were ever told.

Almost every documentary about appearance has a villain. LOOKS was built without one. Appearance is not a scandal. It is one of the oldest human needs, older than any industry that serves it. LOOKS is an educational documentary, not a journalistic investigation.

Dentistry in LOOKS. LOOKS creates a unique opportunity to bring an important social mission to a global audience. The smile shapes first impressions, trust and confidence, and oral health is a foundation of the health of the whole body. A special pillar of the mission is the children’s thread: malocclusion and developmental issues may influence the growth of the face and jaws, breathing and long-term quality of life. Because of their highly specialized nature, dental topics rarely reach mainstream audiences. For most people the dentist is a duty, not a story, and millions of parents remain unaware of how much oral health shapes a child’s development. LOOKS presents this world differently, combining documentary storytelling with artistic visuals and animation to give the subject the cultural weight it deserves.

Around 30 percent of the material mixes visual techniques: 3D and 2D animation, with elements of drawing, painting and sculpture. Video interviews with experts and live footage are woven seamlessly into the animation. The film runs around 75 minutes.

Work on the film has been under way since 2025. Production of the film is scheduled to finish in December 2026. After a festival run, the film will be available to viewers in the first half of 2027. The film will be available to viewers for free on the project’s official site. All language versions will be developed and promoted in parallel in 80 countries through local partners.

LOOKS is created by Pawel Lipka and produced by his animation studio in Warsaw, Poland. His studio produced animation for The Garfield Show, an internationally broadcast series. He worked on the visual effects for the feature film Suicide Room (Sala samobojcow) and on the animated series Wlatcy moch.
