DAN WHITEHOUSE announces Symphony Hall, Bham, gig (Dec 6) + new album

Black Country singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse returns to Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on Sunday 6 December 2026 for his now firmly established annual End-Of-Year Review gig.

An evening of reflection, the show promises to be a veritable musical carnival, reflecting the songs, stories and collaborations that have shaped Dan’s year.

Different every time, the End-Of-Year show brings together and celebrates the people and projects that have been part of Dan’s creative journey over the previous 12 months.

2026’s concert reflects on his latest release, the much-lauded stripped back Only Love album, offers an insight into Songs Before Sunrise, Dan’s new collaboration with acclaimed songwriter Polly Paulusma, and showcases his new harmony vocal partner, Molly Rymer.

Together with further special guests, Dan will reflect on love, change and hope, creating a space to pause, look back and step forward together.

Over recent years, Dan has divided his time between the UK and Japan, an arrangement that deeply informs his present work. A daily practitioner of ‘Morning Pages‘ – a stream-of-consciousness writing discipline he uses to access his true, unfiltered voice – he brings this emotional clarity to a rich array of collaborative projects. These presently include Brother Dolly with Barcelona-based Jason Tarver, touring with New York’s Max ZT, recording with Copenhagen’s Gustaf Ljunggren, and working with London’s John Patrick Elliott, and former Birmingham Poet Laureate Jasmine Gardosi. “I like to be challenged,” Dan says. “I think all of those people stretch me creatively, in different ways, and I like that.”

Released this autumn, Only Love is a raw, piano-and-vocal album recorded live with jazz improviser David O’Brien. While it marks a return to deeply personal territory – documenting the profound isolation, joy, and logistical heartbreak of parenting his young son across the UK-Japan divide – it is approached with a documentarian sensibility. The result is a record of modern fatherhood, captured in real time, for a son who will one day be old enough to understand it.
