Family-owned Italian restaurant group San Carlo has a great Sunday Roast offering at both San Carlo Birmingham on Temple Street and Fumo Birmingham on Waterloo Street, bringing a contemporary take on a traditional British favourite to two of the city’s most established dining destinations.
As one of Birmingham’s first true restaurant-and-bar destinations, Fumo has long set the standard for stylish dining and nightlife in the city. Blending a vibrant atmosphere with refined Italian flavours, the venue pairs a striking marble cocktail bar with a relaxed, social dining style centred around sharing plates, handmade pasta, fresh seafood, artisan meats and indulgent desserts. Meanwhile, San Carlo Birmingham on Temple Street is renowned for its elegant, classic approach to Italian cuisine, offering a more traditional yet equally premium dining experience.
The new Sunday Roast menu is designed for long, relaxed weekend dining and is perfect for family gatherings, friends getting together, or couples looking to enjoy a leisurely meal in the city centre. It offers a welcoming setting where guests can come together over a classic roast with a San Carlo group twist. The menu features a selection of mains including Half Roast Chicken, Lamb Rump, Rib of Beef and a T-Bone Steak designed for sharing. All roasts are served with rosemary and thyme roasted potatoes, roasted seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, traditional trimmings and rich gravy. Guests may also add cauliflower cheese.
With its central locations, elegant interiors and reputation for expertly crafted cocktails, premium wines and exceptional Italian cuisine, Fumo and San Carlo continue to be two of Birmingham’s standout destinations for both dining and late-night experiences, with live DJs and weekend sessions at Fumo further enhancing its energetic atmosphere.

The San Carlo story begins in Sicily, the birthplace of chairman Carlo Distefano. A tale of entrepreneurial success, Carlo arrived in Britain in 1962 aged 17, with £12 in his pocket, a work permit and the promise of a job at a barbershop.
A self-confessed workaholic, by the age of 20, Carlo opened his first joint business venture, a hairdressing salon in Leeds; he also had interests in a coffee bar and disco. But food was always to be Carlo’s primary passion, working six or seven days a week, any free time would be spent in London where he’d dine at the most lauded restaurants in the city – including the Savoy, the Dorchester and Simpsons. It was here that Carlo’s passion for great food, style and service became his driving force.
In 1992 Carlo opened his first eponymously named restaurant in Temple Street, Birmingham, then a humble 20 table restaurant. Celebrities, sporting stars and loyal diners made San Carlo their restaurant of choice and soon Carlo had a success on his hands, Bristol opened in 1996, Leicester in the late 90’s and then Manchester, which has gone on to become possibly the highest profile, busiest restaurant outside of London.
In a world of chain operators and centralised kitchens, the San Carlo restaurant group remains defiantly independent. Each award winning Italian restaurant headed up by its own team of skilled chefs and management and working with only the best Italian seasonal produce – all underpinned by one thing – a passion for great food, service and style.
Now, after thirty years and still working seven days a week, Carlo has overseen the dramatic expansion of the business which has flourished to employ more than 1,000 people across the globe and won more than thirty industry and consumer awards. In 2025, Marcello Distefano (CEO of San Carlo) was awarded Person of the Year by the R200 Restaurant Awards, Molly Looney took home the National PA of the Year award at the PA Awards, and San Carlo Manchester received the Most Loved (Smart) Restaurant at the I Love Manchester Awards.
