A callout for donations has been made by Digbeth companies and the local community who are trying to make sure no one goes hungry or cold this Christmas.
Bread Birmingham, The Old Crown, Kanteen, The Custard Factory, InDigbeth, The Old Library, Printbots and Zellig are teaming up for Reach Out: supplying free christmas dinners and winter supplies to those in need. This drive has been running for the last two years, and made possible by generous donations and volunteers giving their time during the festive season.
The community of Digbeth is asking for donations of gloves, hats, scarves, new underwear and socks, warm jumpers, sleeping bags, baby wipes, first aid kits, sanitary products and non perishable food such as tinned goods and instant noodles, in order to make care packages for those in need.
These packages will be given out on Sunday, December 22nd from 12pm to 4pm at Zellig’s The Old Library on Gibb Street, Digbeth whilst a hot meal will be given to all. Local eateries Kanteen and The Old Crown will be providing the food whilst Bread Birmingham, Printbots, The Custard Factory and InDigbeth will help in the organisation and the promotion of the event.
Ciaran Healy, manager of The Old Crown, said: “We are thankful that the businesses and community of Digbeth are coming together for a third year to help those in need. This time of year can be especially hard and we want to do our bit to help.”
Those wishing to donate can drop items off from Monday, December 9th at the Custard Factory reception on Gibb Street. Those wishing to volunteer their time should contact Alex via alex@theoldcrown.com.
