With quality steak at its core, a contemporary menu to appease any appetite and a bar that’s guaranteed to bring in the crowds, Bar + Block brings a fresh new flavour to Birmingham’s dining scene. Whether it’s a hearty breakfast, working lunch, indulgent dinner or post-work tipple, Bar + Block on Waterloo Street has it all covered.

Steak Royalty

It’s all about the beef at Bar + Block – it’s serious business. Rump, ribeye, sirloin, fillet and the more unique spiral cut, sourced from British breeds of cattle reared across the Pampas in South America, are aged for a minimum of 28 days and can be hand-cut to size that suits any appetite at the time of ordering. But the carnivorous fun doesn’t stop there.

Bar + Block offers a range of rotating steak specials on their ‘Butchers Block’. These unique cuts come to them in smaller quantities so when they’re gone, they’re gone. First up on the Butcher’s Block is a delicious + tender USDA Brisket served with Argentinian-style Chimichurri and irresistible beef dripping chunky chips.

All-day Dining

Meat-lovers can enjoy a solid start to their day with highlights including steak and eggs; salt beef hash; steak eggy bread sarnie and bacon rarebit. The ‘Bar + Block Works’ promises thick cut double smoked bacon, sausage patty, spicy beans, salt beef hash, flat mushroom and roasted tomato topped with a fried egg on toast… with the option to add a rump steak too! Lighter options are also available including smashed avocado and a poached egg on toast or granola topped with berry compote and yogurt.

Lunch and dinner steal the show with a selection of quality, classic steaks and the rotating specials on the ‘Butchers Block’. Other highlights from the menu include slow-cooked pork belly, beef short rib, handmade beef burgers which are freshly ground on-site, a selection of salads and sides of beef dripping chunky chips; buttermilk onion rings; and sweet potato fries with chorizo, feta and coriander.

Young carnivores can enjoy favourites such as steak or a beef burger with chips; chicken skewers served with tzatziki, house salad and stone-baked flatbreads; mini pizza and fish and chips. Available 12-10pm, 7 days a week.

Hurried + Hungry

For the hurried and hungry, the Express Menu at Bar + Block – available 12-5pm Monday to Friday – guarantees to give a satisfying quick-fix. All dishes are cooked to order in under 10 minutes and for under £10, diners can enjoy a glass of wine, beer or soft drink and a dish including steak and frites; mussels and frites; a classic 6oz beef burger and fries or a grilled vegetable salad.

Post-work tipple

The destination bar provides the ideal setting to while away the evening catching up with friends over drinks. An extensive menu of beers, wines, Champagne, spirits and cocktails ensures there is an array of options to quench the after-work thirst, as well as a range of speciality soft drinks.

Every Monday to Thursday, all cocktails at Bar + Block are half price from 4-6pm, and on Fizz Fridays, a bottle of Prosecco is just £15 for the entire day! Indulge in a glass of Fantinel Prosecco, a Havana mojito, a classic cosmopolitan, a Bacardi daiquiri or an Aperol Spritz, to name just a few.

Those looking for a nibble can opt for a quick snack from the bar menu. Cheese and chipotle stuffed dippers, chicken wings with raspberry and Tabasco sauce, beef empanadas or a cheeky burger make for the perfect finger-friendly bites.


Exposed brickwork, soft leather booths, feature lighting and wall art including an iconic neon cow and preserved moss ‘hello’ sign provide a stylish and contemporary setting for all-day dining in Birmingham. An open kitchen where diners can watch the action unfold in front of them, combined with a relaxed copper back bar, offers the ideal backdrop for a leisurely meal, quick bite or drinks after work.
